The 2023 California Nonprofits of the Year have been announced. This year 114 organizations statewide were honored for playing a critical role in their communities.

In the Central Valley, Assemblyman Vince Fong, R-Bakersfield, chose Bakersfield Angels, which provides support to youth experiencing foster care and works to walk alongside foster families through outreach and mentorship programs.

Sen. Melissa Hurtado, D-Bakersfield, recognized the Central Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross for its rapid response to extraordinary storms earlier this year.

Sen. Dr. Jasmeet Bains, D-Delano, chose the Valley Fever Institute at Kern Medical, which is currently the region’s sole clinic for people who contract valley fever.

Sen. Shannon Grove, R-Bakersfield, who represents portions of Fresno, Kern and Tulare counties, chose the Fresno-based Light House Recovery Program, which works to provide support to individuals and families struggling with addiction.
