Department of Human Services-Community Cafes 2026

Kern County Department of Human Services, in partnership with the Social Policy Institute at San Diego University, will host a series of Community Cafés—public* listening sessions designed to gather feedback from residents who have interacted with Kern County’s Child Protective Services (CPS).

The cafes will be facilitated by the Social Policy Institute. These forums provide a welcoming space for community members to share experiences and help inform future improvements to services and supports.

• Monday, January 12 — 6:15 PM to 8:45 PM (English),  Boys & Girls Club, 801 Niles St, Bakersfield

• Tuesday, January 13 — 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM (English)  Boys & Girls Club, 801 Niles St, Bakersfield

• Tuesday, January 13 — 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM (Spanish) Central Church of Christ, 804 Jefferson St, Delano

Registration & Participation Community members can register by emailing socialpolicyinstitute@sdsu.edu. Identifying information will not be required.

About the Community Cafés: The Community Cafés are structured listening sessions intended to elevate lived experiences and community voice. Input collected will help the Kern County Department of Human Services and partners highlight strengths and identify gaps to better support children and families in the community.
