Plenty of holiday songs can be heard over the radio and department store sound systems between the start of November and New Year's Day. That includes numerous songs that commemorate the miracle of Chanukah. One of the most well-known songs, "Chanukah, Oh Chanukah," has many different versions, including some with Yiddish lyrics. School children may recall singing at least one version in holiday concerts and pageants.

"Chanukah, Oh Chanukah"

Chanukah, Oh Chanukah

Come light the menorah

Let's have a party

We'll all dance the hora

Gather 'round the table, we'll give you a treat

A dreidel to play with and latkes to eat.

And while we are playing

The candles are burning low

One for each night, they shed a sweet light

To remind us of days long ago.

One for each night, they shed a sweet light

To remind us of days long ago.

Chanukah, Oh Chanukah

Come light the menorah

Let's have a party

We'll all dance the hora

Gather 'round the table, we'll give you a treat

A dreidel to play with and latkes to eat.

And while we are playing

The candles are burning low

One for each night, they shed a sweet light

To remind us of days long ago.

One for each night, they shed a sweet light

To remind us of days long ago.
