BAKERSFIELD, CA — In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Adventist Health is inviting community members to take charge of their health by participating in a free clinical breast screening at the Adventist Health Breast Center in Bakersfield on October 10, 2025.

This special screening event is designed for uninsured or underinsured patients who may not otherwise have access to vital breast health services. Space is limited, and registration is required. To reserve a spot, call 661-863-2001.

“Early detection is one of the most powerful tools in the fight against breast cancer,” said Francesca Hoehne, MD, a breast surgeon at the Breast Center in Bakersfield. “Mammograms help identify abnormalities at an earlier stage, when treatment can be most effective.”

According to the American Cancer Society, when breast cancer is detected early and is in the localized stage, the five-year relative survival rate is 99 percent. Clinical breast exams, along with other recommended screenings, can help find cancer before symptoms appear — offering the best chance of successful treatment.

During the free screening event, if it’s identified that breast imaging, such as mammograms or ultrasound,s are needed, the imaging will be ordered and scheduled, and the cost will be covered through a partnership with Links for Life.

Patients who need further evaluation or treatment have access to world-class care through Adventist Health’s Breast Center, the only comprehensive Breast Center in Kern County accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. The AIS Breast and Cancer Center offers leading-edge technology, multidisciplinary cancer experts, and personalized support services to guide patients every step of the way.
