Chances are a newly diagnosed breast cancer patient will need some measure of help and support but may not feel comfortable asking for assistance. Getting help also can be overwhelming for certain individuals. But supportive friends or loved ones can step up to the plate and offer support in various ways.
- Nourish with Food: Coordinate meal deliveries or drop off groceries. Whether it’s homemade or takeout, consistent access to nourishing food eases daily stress for the patient and their household.
- Help Around the House: Pitch in with cleaning, laundry, or pet care. Even small tasks like vacuuming or walking the dog can make a big difference when energy is low.
- Offer Rides and Errands: Drive them to appointments or help with errands. Your presence can ease anxiety and provide a comforting sense of routine.
- Give Caregivers a Break: Step in to babysit, attend appointments, or simply offer a few hours of relief. Supporting the caregiver is supporting the patient.
- Be Present and Listen: Sometimes the most powerful gift is quiet companionship. Sit, listen, and let them share without pressure or advice—just your time and empathy.
