Kern Transit's Free Rides for Students program has resumed and will continue through June 30, 2026.

Students in elementary school, middle school, high school, college, vocational schools, and any other higher education classes ride FREE on any Kern Transit bus to any Kern Transit stop! This includes Dial-A-Ride services as well. Simply show your valid Student ID to the driver at each boarding.

This is made possible by a grant called the Low Carbon Transit Operations Program (LCTOP) provided by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) in an effort to reduce congestion, carbon emissions of single-occupancy vehicles, encourage ridership, and support those seeking education.

Now through June 30, 2026, all students ride FREE on every Kern Transit route. Just hop on, show your student ID to the driver, and you’re on your way!
